Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to what Adventurers ask most about formats, guilds, spoilers, and the web app.

Here are quick answers to what people ask most often about Squabble. If your issue isn't covered here, the other troubleshooting pages dig into playback, sync, and Audiobookshelf problems in more detail.

What audiobook formats can I import?

Squabble accepts MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, WAV, OGG, and FLAC files straight from your device. If you run a self-hosted Audiobookshelf (ABS) server, connecting it lets you browse and download from your server's library instead of transferring files manually.

How many Adventurers can be in a guild?

Up to 6. A guild holds up to 6 members, joined with a 6-character invite code from an existing member — there's no way to add a seventh seat to the same guild.

Can I be in more than one guild at once?

Yes, up to 6 guilds. From the Guild tab, tap your current guild's name at the top to open Switch Guild and move between them — only one guild is active at a time for your Quest Board and Tavern view.

Do Timestamp Comments spoil the story for guildmates who are behind?

No. Timestamp Comments stay hidden from a guildmate until their own Furthest Position reaches that moment in the book.

Is the web app the same as the mobile app?

Not quite. Mobile is the primary app — importing books, playback, downloading from Audiobookshelf, and background audio all happen there. The web app Also on web mirrors your library, guild Quest Board, and notes so you can browse and comment from a browser, but there's no in-browser playback yet.

Do I need an Audiobookshelf server to use Squabble?

No. Audiobookshelf integration is entirely optional — importing files directly from your device works fine on its own.

Can I use Squabble without joining a guild?

Yes. Your library, playback, and personal progress all work without a guild. Joining or creating one adds the social layer — Ghost Markers, Timestamp Comments, and Tavern chat — on top.

What's a Solo Quest?

A Solo Quest is sharing your Timestamp Comments on a personal book with guildmates who separately own that same book, without adding it to the guild's shared Quest Board.

Can I reread a book I've already finished?

Yes. Starting a finished book over triggers New Read+ mode, which tracks a separate loot tier for each reread, from Common up through Ascended.

Does Squabble work without an internet connection?

Locally imported books, and anything you've already downloaded from Audiobookshelf, play fully offline. Downloading a new book from Audiobookshelf needs a reachable server, and guild features like Ghost Markers and comments need a connection to sync — but your own progress keeps recording locally and catches up once you're back online.

Where do I go if something's actually broken?

For playback problems like lock screen controls, chapter names, or stutter, see Playback issues. For progress that isn't syncing between devices, see Sync and progress issues. For a server that won't connect, see Audiobookshelf connection issues.
